Mokwa Flood Relief

About the Initiative

After the May 29 devastating flood disaster that occurred in Mokwa, with at least 500 confirmed deaths and over 600 people missing (many presumed dead). More than 3,000 people displaced (NEMA), including over 1,600 children under the age of 12, and about 380 lactating mothers (UNICEF). During this deadly flooding event, Aspire Alliance Committee on Flood Relief (CFR) covered hundreds of miles just to bring smile to thousands of people, including vulnerable children, older citizens and pregnant women.

Hundreds of victims of the flood in Ndayako and Rabah community of Mokwa also benefitted from the large scale distribution of relief items, including apparels, foodstuffs, toiletries and sanitary items which were donated and sponsored by the general public, and delivered by Aspire Alliance Group

Our Impact

  • Life-saving humanitarian support: Aspire Alliance reached flood-affected communities in Mokwa with essential relief, restoring hope and dignity to thousands of vulnerable people, including children, the elderly, and pregnant women.
  • Large-scale relief distribution: Hundreds of displaced families in Ndayako and Rabah communities received food, clothings, toiletries, and sanitary items, easing immediate hardship after the disaster.
  • Health protection for displaced persons: Free medical screenings, essential drugs, and treated mosquito nets were provided at Kpege IDP camp to prevent malaria and dengue outbreaks.
  • Focused support for vulnerable groups: Targeted assistance reached children, lactating mothers, and displaced households, helping reduce health risks and improve living conditions during recovery.

Program Highlights

Hundreds of displaced persons at Kpege IDP-camp in Mokwa benefitted from the free medical screening, drugs and distribution of treated mosquito nets as this serve as a preventive measure to the impending malaria/dengue fever infection around the IDP camps and refuge homes.
